LDS ABCs app

This is an exciting day for me! About 6 weeks ago I was approached by a company making a LDS ABC coloring app and asked if I would draw the pictures for them. Yesterday the app was officially launched. Click here for the link. The app is called LDS ABCs.

I wanted to write down some of my thoughts on the process:

- While I am so excited about this, and proud of the work I was able to do, I also want anyone that follows my blog to know that my work is not only for member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or also known as LDS / Mormons. I love my faith, and I feel it brings me closer to God, but I never want it to make anyone feel excluded. This blog and my doodles are for all!

- Second, I was a little nervous for this project because I had never drawn a beard before and they needed a few pictures of Jesus, Moses, Noah, etc and well . . . from every picture I have seen they all have beards. So I practiced and practiced and practiced. My husband and children were wonderful critics and would say yah or nah. If I showed my children a picture and said, "Who is this?" and they would respond correctly with"Jesus!" or "Noah!" to the corresponding picture, then I felt I had accomplish my goal. My husband was a wonderful support and comic relief. With the first Jesus he said, "It looks good, but he looks like a hippie, but then again Jesus does have long hair, wear a robe and sandals, so I guess that doesn't have anything to do with your drawings." :)

- I also wanted to make sure that my pictures showed respect. I talked to a few people and tried to do some research to find out if it is appropriate to draw a cartoon Jesus Christ. I actually stewed over this for quite sometime. In the end I felt I tried my best to depict Him in a respectful way and as the scriptures talked about Him (talking to the disciples on the shore, etc).

-The over all experience was great. I drew 26 pictures in 2 weeks, which is a lot for me, I usually work on one picture for several days coming back to it over and over again until I'm totally satisfied with it. The organization I worked with was so supportive and helpful and would laugh when I would send pictures at 2 and 3 in the morning. With a newborn I find I get some of my best work done at that time.

-The absolute best part of the whole thing is to see my children color my pictures on my phone. I never even dreamed something like this would ever happen. Thank you to the creators of LDS ABCs App for asking me. It was a wonderful experience.

P.S. If the app brought you here to my site feel free to roam around. I have quite a few free printables here.
